H.I.M. Ambassador Program

HISTORY IN THE MAKING AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

Launching – September 2018 – June 2019– Austin, Texas

The purpose of the History in the MakingAmbassadors Program is to encourage, educate and empower students of color in our community to make history in their lifetime.  The program will include 40 students total in the Austin pilot program:

  • 10 students from Pflugerville Independent School District
  • 10 students from Manor Independent School District
  • 10 students from Huston-Tillotson University
  • 10 students from The University of Texas at Austin

Each month students will attend sessions at the following academies:

  • History in the Making Leadership Academy – designed to teach leadership principles
  • History in the Making Boys to Men Academy – designed to help boys become men
  • History in the Making Girls to Women Academy – designed to help girls become women.

HISTORY IN THE MAKING TRIPS

Domestic Trip: After year one of the program the students will take a trip through the United States civil rights movement to locations including:

  • Dallas, Texas
  • Little Rock, Arkansas
  • Memphis, Tennessee
  • Atlanta, Georgia
  • Birmingham, Alabama
  • Selma, Alabama
  • Jackson, Mississippi
  • New Orleans, Louisiana
  • Houston, Texas

International Trip: After year two of the program, the students will take a trip to Cape Town, South Africa to learn about the history of apartheid and the leadership of Nelson Mandela is redeveloping South Africa.  We will partner with local NGOs to serve.
